“Even if our students of color manage to stay in school despite all of the efforts to push them out, they still largely receive a white supremacist education that erases their history and their vision of their future”

What is Antiracism & Art?
Antiracism & Art is a high school art curriculum that fuses elements of a race & ethnic studies class and an arts class in a meaningful way. This curriculum is designed to inspire self-reflection, giving students information that they can take to explore themes of racism in their own lives. Furthermore, this curriculum provides students with an antiracist toolkit that they can use to combat racism in their everyday lives, empowering the next generation of antiracists. When implemented, this course will be a safe space for all students, but especially students of color, to talk about racism and it's impacts. To accompany the course content, we've also provided an antiracist teaching guide that teachers can use to foster a classroom environment where conversations about race can be held in an open, welcoming manner.
Statement of positionality
This curriculum was designed by two white women. By nature of our positionality, there are limitations in our understanding of the lived experiences of BIPOC communities in our education system and the artistic world. In the research process for designing this curriculum, we made sure to learn about the lived experiences, history, and desires of people of color in order to make our intentions for this project match its impact. Despite this, however, we acknowledge that there may be some limitations in our accurate representations of what BIPOC students need the most. If you have insight/feedback into how we can make this curriculum more inclusive, please let us know via the feedback button to the right.
